How to care for your Tillandsias (air plants):

These unique plants require minimal care, here are some care instructions to get you started. Unlike other plants, these plants absorm their nutrients through their leaves. Plants with dull grey green leaves tend to like more full sun, where was those with lighter green leaves prefer morning sun or bright light.

 

  • Water requirements : Water thoroughly about once a week depending on weather, dryer conditions will mean more watering is required, for out door plants use a hose and spray until thoroughly wet. For indoor plants soak in a bowl for 15 to 30min and allow your plants to dry out before placing them back on their displays. Avoid over watering to prevent leaf rot. Plants that are kept in full sun may require more frequent watering.
  • Plant position: High light, semi-shade to full shade. Grey leaved varieties can be kept in full sun, however semi-shade is a safe option.
  • Planting: Can be kept indoors, be creative with your displays, display on some drift wood or in a ceramic dish, or perhaps on a bonsai, be creative and have fun.
  • Flowering season: Irregular flowering periods, after flowering plant will produce pups, then gradually die off, you can remove pups once they are a third of the size of the mature plant.
  • Special properties: Feature plant, does not need soil.
