Portulacaria afra also known as the “Spekboom” plant is an indigenous plant to South Africa, this popular garden plant is well known for its ticket of vegetation and restoration purposes. Here are some basic care tips to keep your plant happy and healthy!

  • Water requirements : Low to moderate watering, allow soil to dry out between watering, avoid water on leaves.
  • Plant position: High light, full sun to semi shade. Planted preferably outside in the garden.
  • Planting: Year round, sandy or loam soil, acidic to neutral PH.
  • Flowering season: Spring to early summer with insignificant pink blooms.
  • Special properties: Medicinal plant, edible leaves and makes a great hedging plant.
